Server Training

Fargo Cass Public Health

Several updates have recently been made to Server Training, including the format and timing of the class, as well as the process for maintaining Server Training records . Please see below for those changes:

Server Training is now only available online through the North Dakota Safety Council. Currently, there is no cost associated with this course. In-person classes are no longer available; this includes private classes.

Fargo Cass Public Health

To register and complete the course, please visit https://www.ndsc.org/free-responsible-beverage-server-online-training-basic-server/.

Individuals who pass the course will receive a certificate and will be credentialed for three years. It is recommended to keep the certificate as record of completion of the course.

*Please note: current server training cards obtained through completion of a class facilitated by Fargo Cass Public Health are valid for three years from the date of completion of the class

Fargo Public Library

Spend quality time sharing stories, learning school-readiness skills, and preparing your child for a lifetime of reading at storytime! Through the use of age-appropriate stories, songs, and fingerplays in a group setting, staff help you learn how to foster early literacy skills that prepare your children to learn to read. Preschool Storytimes are for children age 3 or older. Children turning 3 during the current session may also register. Pre-registration is required. Register online or call Children's Services at 701.241.1495.
Friends from the North Dakota School for the Deaf will be our guests at one of our regularly scheduled Fall storytimes. We’ll learn what it's like to use American Sign Language to communicate and share stories using signs. This event is open to all children whether you are registered for Fall Storytime or not.

Registration for the Fall 2019 Storytime session (Sept. 9 - Dec. 11) begins Aug. 1, 2019.

During the preschool storytime sessions, parents/guardians are required to remain in the library building. Parents are not required to sit with their children the entire time and may browse the collection if the children are comfortable with the parent doing so. Preschool Storytimes are generally 30 minutes in length.

Stepping On Workshop

Stepping On will help participants identify reasons for falling and different ways to prevent falls, including strength and balance exercises, home safety check suggestions and a medication review.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training

The Fargo Cass Public Health Emergency Preparedness & Response Division will conduct a summer Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training beginning June 6. CERT is an All-Hazard approach to train and educate citizens in case of a large or small-scale disaster. Following a major disaster, first responders who provide fire and medical services will not be able to meet the demand for these services. CERT training provides life-saving skills and techniques for people who will rely on each other for help in the time of need.

This training is FREE and open to the public. Classes will take place at Edgewood Vista, 4420 37th Ave S, Fargo, ND 58104, from 1 - 3 p.m.

Fargo Cass Public Health will host a Flu Shot Friday event on Friday, October 28. According to Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat, and sometimes the lungs. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to death. The first and most important step in preventing flu is to get a flu vaccine each year. Flu vaccine has been shown to reduce flu related illnesses and the risk of serious flu complications that can result in hospitalization or even death.

FCPH will hold an additional walk-in flu shot clinic on Friday, November 20, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Appointments are not required but residents are asked to complete registration ahead of time by visiting the North Dakota Vaccination Registration Website and selecting ‘Find a Vaccination Clinic’. Flu shots will be available for anyone age 6 months and older. High dose vaccine is available for residents age 65 and older. The flu shot clinic will take place at FCPH, located at 1240 25th Street South in Fargo. Those who wish to receive a flu shot should bring Medicare or health insurance information to the clinic.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting a flu shot at any time during flu season. Receiving an annual flu shot is the best protection against the influenza virus and can reduce flu illnesses, doctor visits and missed work and school due to flu.

Residents are asked to adhere to COVID-19 prevention protocols that will be in place during the flu shot clinic. Those measures include wearing a mask while in the building, maintaining physical distance while waiting in line, utilizing separate entrance/exit doors and staying home if not feeling well.

Spring Flood Awareness Meeting

The North Dakota State Water Commission and Department of Emergency Services will be hosting a series of meetings to inform the public about the potential for 2020 spring flood threats and steps people can take to prepare themselves and protect their property. The meetings will also include presentations from federal partners including FEMA, the National Weather Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Information will be provided on dam operations, current flood forecasts, flood preparedness and mitigation tips, and flood insurance. There will be time at the end of the meetings for the public to ask questions about any of the topics presented.

Flu Shot Friday

The North Dakota Department of Health has reported a sharp increase in influenza activity and reminds residents that it is not too late to get a flu shot. In an effort to increase influenza vaccination rates, Fargo Cass Public Health will hold a walk-in Flu Shot Friday event on Friday, January 10, from noon – 3:00 p.m. Flu shots will be available for anyone age 6 months and older. The event will take place in the Linden Room at Fargo Cass Public Health, located at 1240 25th Street South in Fargo. Those who wish to receive a flu shot are reminded to bring Medicare or health insurance information to the clinic.

Restorative Yoga is a 90-minute yoga class that has benefits to every person, regardless of age, gender, or physical ability. Some benefits to practicing restorative yoga include balancing the nervous system, deep relaxation of your physical body, boosting your immune system, and gentle stretching of muscles for increased flexibility. Props are used in this class for every pose to completely support your body and allow for full relaxation. Poses in this class are held longer to deepen the inward focus and to practice stillness. Bring a yoga mat if you have one or a large towel and wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in. These classes are recommended for adults, and no registration is required. 2019 Healthy Schools Summit

Fargo Cass Public Health will hold a flu shot clinic on Friday, November 30, from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. This event is open to the public. Flu shots will be available for anyone age 6 months and older.

The event will be held in the Linden Room at Fargo Cass Public Health, located at 1240 25th Street South. Those who wish to receive a flu shot are reminded to bring Medicare or health insurance information to the clinic. High Dose flu vaccine will be available to those 65 and older. According to the Cass County Coroner, there were nine deaths in 2015 due to opioid overdose in Cass County. In 2016, there were 31 deaths; in 2017, there were 17 deaths and in 2018, there have been five deaths to date. Fargo Cass Public Health recognizes the need for expanded awareness, education and access to naloxone (NARCAN®), due to the high number of opioid-related overdose deaths in the community and the nation.

As the first and only FDA-approved naloxone nasal spray, NARCAN® Nasal Spray provides a ready-to-use opioid overdose emergency treatment. NARCAN® Nasal Spray is not a substitute for emergency medical care, and repeat applications may be necessary. Seek emergency medical assistance immediately, and keep the patient under continued surveillance.

The Mayors’ Blue Ribbon Commission on Addiction will host another Take Back Tuesday event on Tuesday, August 28 from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will take place on the sidewalk outside the main entrance of Fargo Cass Public Health, located at 1240 25th Street South in Fargo.

The Take Back event will allow area residents to properly dispose of unused and unwanted over-the-counter and prescription medications, thereby helping protect the environment and prevent drug diversion and misuse. Take Back programs are also a strategy to help combat the opioid epidemic.

The first Take Back Event of 2018 took place on June 19 at Fargo Cass Public Health and generated 143 pounds of medications from 110 participants.

The following items will be accepted at the Take Back event:
* Unused or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, including:
* Pills, tablets, caplets (remove product from the packaging)
* Inhalers, nebulizer solutions, liquids and creams (leave in the original container)
* Controlled substances
* Pain relief such as Vicodin, Hydrocodone, Demerol, OxyContin, fentanyl, etc.
* Anti-depressants such as Valium, Zoloft, Prozac, etc.
* Sleep aids, such as Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata, etc.

The following items will not be accepted at this Take Back event:
* Sharps (syringes, lancets), thermometers, glass, home-based care (HBC) or durable medical equipment (DME) supplies, and pharmacy inventory. Residents are encouraged to ask their pharmacists where to safely dispose of these items.

The Take Back program was launched in December 2009. North Dakota now offers two free programs for residents to dispose of unwanted medications – the Take Back program at participating law enforcement agencies and the MedSafe program at participating pharmacies. North Dakota is the only state in the nation operating free, year-round, statewide prescription drug disposal programs at local law enforcement agencies and pharmacies. Bed Bug Seminar

The seminars will take place at Fargo Cass Public Health, 1240 25th Street South, Fargo and are scheduled for 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 pm. The seminars are intended to provide community education and awareness on the topic of bed bugs. The presenter is a subject matter expert with over 10 years of experience as a licensed pest control exterminator. Bed bug infestations in the U.S. have been on the rise since the mid-90s, thanks to an increasingly mobile population and the bugs growing resistance to pesticides.

On November 15, 2017, Fargo Cass Public Health will host a 'Heart-N-Soul' Community Cafe, in conjunction with Homeless and Hungry Awareness Week. This event is open to the public and encourages community members to join one another for a meal. Beat the fall temps with a meal of hot chili, salad and dessert!

At the Community Café, all are welcome no matter your means. The idea of the Community Café is to end hunger & food insecurity in the Fargo-Moorhead area by providing healthy, local (when possible) and delicious food to all who walk through our door. All patrons are welcome and will be served in a respectful and dignified manner, regardless of their ability to pay.
